Where have all the Christian artists gone?

When I think of Christian artwork I immediately think of works by classic artists such as Michelangelo, Raphael and Caravaggio, stunning works-of-art that have stood the test of time for over 500 years. When I try to think of famous modern day religious artists, then mostly only Salvador Dali comes to mind and he died almost thirty years ago!

We have of course had many famous religious artworks in the 21st century, a number of which have been quite controversial, but for the most part, artists who focus mostly on Christian wall art are not household names these days, certainly not as famous as the artists previously mentioned.

The good news is that buying fine art reproductions is very easy and affordable these days, so if you want to appreciate The Last Super in your home, it’s no problem; with digital printing, anything can be beautifully recreated.

Another trend I’ve noticed (along with the huge rise of wall art stickers) is bible quotation wall decals. The popularity of these has blown me away. Perhaps due to the low cost and inspiring messages, which can look really nice if they are in the right spot and not too overpowering. There are literally hundreds of bible quotes to chose from, and if you don’t find your favorite you can even get them custom made. Wall stickers are easy to apply and remove, they are a very simple way of transforming a wall whilst providing some motivation at the same time.

Don’t get me wrong though, there is a great selection of modern Christian art available, with modern Jesus paintings along with paintings of religious scenes.  It's just interesting that there doesn’t seem to be any household named Christian artists anymore.
